James Odell Long, 69, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Providence Hospital.

Born in Newberry County and a son of the late James Haskell and Annie Laura Black Long, he was the husband of the late Linda Ann Whittle Long. Odell retired from Monsanto and was a member of the Hollywood Ruritan Club and a sustaining member of the Fish Fry Club. He was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council and Property Committee. He was a member and current President of the Corinth / St. Mark's Lutheran Men in Mission and he was a volunteer with Christ Central in Saluda.

Surviving are a daughter, Melinda L. Kneece (Josh) of Saluda, a son Johnny Long of Saluda, two sisters, Beth Rodgers (A.B.) of Saluda and Marjorie Jones of Saluda, a granddaughter, Makenzie " Doodelum" Kneece and grandsons.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by a son, James Wayne Long, two brothers, Ernest Haskell Long and George Noland Long and a sister, Fran Long Mims.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm Saturday evening at Ramey Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Corinth Lutheran Church with Rev. Pam Turfa officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
