Peggy Cockrell
Peggy Whatley Cockrell, 78, died on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Saluda Nursing Center.
She was born at the home place in Kirksey of Greenwood County on January 28, 1945, a daughter of the late Pope Payne Whatley, Sr. and Vera Hollingsworth Whatley.
Ms. Cockrell previously worked in the textile mill and the former Parkman's Pharmacy, before retiring at Tidwell Jewelers, where she found much joy.
Ms. Cockrell was known for helping others when she was able. She thoroughly enjoyed outdoor activities, yardwork, flower gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son, Brian Keith Cockrell of Saluda; grandson, Brandon Keith Cockrell of Lexington; a sister, Irma Medlock of Greenwood; and a brother, J.B. Whatley (Dot) of Cayce.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a sister, Helen Banes, and four brothers, Alfred Whatley, Paul Whatley, Payne Whatley, and Eugene Whately.
