Peggy Duffie Black

Peggy Jean Duffie Black, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born in Saluda County and a daughter of the late Henry Zed Duffie, Sr. and Ruth D. Duffie. Mrs. Black was a graduate of Newberry College and had retired from Old School Manufacturing.

She was the wife of the late Bernard L. Black for 54 years. Their lake home was always open to family and friends. Her only rule: "Bring your own food – I can quinch your thirst, but I can't afford to feed everyone." It was always a crowd of family and friends after church on Sunday afternoon swimming, water skiing and just relaxing. She was always supportive of her husband in the American Legion and as a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. As a lifelong member of Butler Methodist Church, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was passionate about music, loved singing, and found joy in gardening.

Surviving is a son, Tony L. Black (Cheryl M.) of Saluda.

Mrs. Black was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Lane Black, four sisters, Mildred Grant, Margaret Wallace, Doshia Smith, and Bobbie Ann Duffie, and a brother, H.Z. Duffie, Jr.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Butler Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Huggins and Jeff Hallman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church social hall.
