Richard Bodie

Richard Vernon Bodie, 64, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Greenwood, and a son of the late Harold Bodie and Thelma Gregory Bodie, he was the husband of Debra Cockrell Bodie. He was a hardworking and dedicated man who gave 32 years of service as a grinding room operator with Southern Brickyard Company in Ninety Six before his retirement. Known throughout the community as a true "shade tree mechanic," Mr. Bodie had a remarkable gift for fixing small engines and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Neighbors and friends alike would bring their equipment to him, trusting his skill and patience to get it running again.

Mr. Bodie was a faithful member of Ninety Six Congregational Holiness Church, where he found strength in his faith and fellowship among his church family. Above all, he will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his steady work ethic, and the quiet way he served those around him. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and dependable nature.

Surviving alongside his wife of 11 years are, two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Gregory and Kimberly "Kim" Gregory (Reggie Phillips), a special nephew, Noah Cochran (Devon), all of Saluda, five grandchildren, Tyler Bryan (Nichole), Austin Bryan (Trista), Maliki Gregory (Samantha), Emmanuel Gunter (Taylor Comer), and Sieanna Phillips, six great-grandchildren, five siblings, Jimmie Bodie of Saluda, Beverly Benson (Rick) of Blythewood, Randall Bodie (Jennie) of Saluda, Belinda Bodie of Greenwood, and Karen Robertson (Rick) of Greenwood, a step-mother, Sue Bodie of Laurens, three step-siblings, Terry Gregory, Sheila Alexander, and Wendell Gregory (Jan), a half sister, Susan Erskine (Charlie), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bodie was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Rowan Luke Bryan and a step-brother, Bobby Gregory.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Ninety Six Congregational Holiness Church, 1917 Hwy 246 South, Greenwood, SC 29646, with Pastor Yvonne Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
