Richard Crouch

Richard Farrel Crouch, 93, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Saluda and was a son of the late Franklin Ansel Crouch and Eva Corrine Timmerman Crouch, he was the husband of the late Bobbie Merchant Crouch. A Navy veteran, master gardener, and devoted golfer, Mr. Crouch lived a full and meaningful life that touched all who knew him. He was a member of Gassaway.

Mr. Crouch proudly served in the United States Navy for 22 years and 7 months. His military career was marked by dedication, discipline, and a strong sense of duty. After retiring from the Navy, he found a new rhythm in life through gardening, a passion that became a second career and a lifelong source of peace and purpose. He officially hung up his gardening tools at the remarkable age of 90. When he wasn't in the garden, Mr. Crouch could often be found on the golf course. For him, golf was more than a game, it was a chance to stay active, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time with friends. Whether it was a weekend round or a quiet afternoon at the driving range, he cherished every moment.

Surviving are two sons, Richand Wesley Crouch (Alicia) of Tacoma, WA, and Christopher Ansel Crouch (Bobbie), two daughters, Debra F. Dorn (Tommy) and Lillie C. Forrest (Van) all of Saluda, a brother, David Lorraine Crouch, a brother-in-law, Gamewell Merchant (Beth), two sisters-in-law, Connie Owings and Betty Jo Dorn, eleven grandchildren, Matthew Crouch (Cindi), Brittany Crouch, Karedith Tinker (Cody), Holden Crouch, Corbin Crouch, Emmett Penley (Adrienne), Benjamin Penley (Elizabeth), Buren Forrest, Dixie Starnes (Jacob), Tom Dorn (Jessica), and Benjamin Dorn (Martha), twelve great-grandchildren, Logan Crouch, Judson Crouch, Scarlett Crouch, Alice Forrest, Eva Yarborough, Mira Yarborough, Christian Penley, Conner Penley, Cadence Penley, Emma Dorn, Luke Dorn, and Marley Dorn, and a special friend to the family, Glen Price.

Mr. Crouch is preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Crouch and a son-in-law, Ronald E. Penley.

A memorial graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Gassaway Cemetery with Mr. Andrew Owings officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
