Robert Alton Gibson

Robert Alton Gibson, 86, died Saturday, November 19, 2022 at his home.

Born in Saluda County, he was a son of the late Harvey Rufus Gibson and Ruby Lee Sanders Gibson. Mr. Gibson served in the South Carolina National Guard, Battery "B" 2D AW BN (SP) 263D ARTY in Easley, SC. He was a retired South Carolina Highway Patrol and a former employee of Electrolux. His community involvement included membership in various organizations including the Keowee Masonic Lodge #79, Hejaz Shriners, former constables, and an active member of Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church of Saluda, SC and a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens, SC.

Surviving are three daughters, Cynthia Peek (John) of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Lee Bunnells of Saluda and Angela Rodgers (Mike) of Ward, two sisters, Daisy Massey of West Columbia and Sandra Blount of Panama City Beach, FL, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle Gibson and Carl Gibson and a son in-law, Kenneth Bunnells.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Valerie Mireb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
