Robert Metts, Sr.
Robert Edward Metts, Sr., 82, of Saluda, SC, husband of Glenda Horne Metts, passed away on August 17, 2017 after an extended illness.
Mr. Metts was born on July 26, 1935 to the late Ray Crosson Metts and Lettie Mae Hancock Metts.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church and formerly served on the Church Council and on the Reconstruction Committee when the church burned in 1996.
Robert retired from Milliken and Company and was owner and operator of Metts Heating and Air Conditioning for many years. He also served in the SC National Guard in Saluda. Robert was gifted with many talents which he shared with his family and friends. He lived most of his life on the property on which he was raised. He loved the land, which he kept in pristine condition, as long as his health allowed.
Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Glenda, and by two sons, Robert Edwards Metts, Jr. (Bobby) and his wife, Suzanne of Spartanburg, SC: and Dr. Christopher Lloyd Metts (Chris) and his wife, Jennifer of Charleston, SC, and by his grandchildren, Eliza, Carrie, Sydney and Rob; sister, Mildred Metts Perry of Lexington, SC; brothers, Winford O. Metts and his wife, Eleanor and George Ray Metts and his wife, Dorothy all of Saluda, SC; as well as numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Holt Metts; sister, Mollie Metts Morgan, and his brother-in-law, James Perry and nephew, Layne Metts.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bill Sawyer; Dr. Venkata K. Pokuri, nurses and staff at the Cancer Center of Self Regional and Hospice Care of the Piedmont for their kind care.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Glander and Rev. Wayne Horne officiating. Interment will follow in Travis Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
