Sara Gillion

Heaven gained another angel Sara Elizabeth Worthington Gillion on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Born in Greenwood County and a daughter of the late, Richard Jefferson Worthington and Corrie Lee Shannon Worthington. She was the wife of Reverend William Thomas "Billy" Gillion, Sr. and had just celebrated their anniversary of sixty-four wonderful years together in December 2020. She is currently a returning member of Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church, after serving thirty-one years, out of fifty-seven years of being a ministers wife, at the Chapel of Praise Congregational Holiness Church. Their church members, whom she loved dearly, she considered family. In her earlier years she served as a teacher for the Royal Rangers and Royalettes Ministry. She held a Christian Minister License with the Congregational Holiness Church and was a member of the Eastern Star.

Her fondest working days were working as a child care provider. If she ever had the opportunity to care for you, you became her forever baby.

Sara was a loving wife and mother and so many others have expressed to our family they have loved her, their whole life. Knowing her home was always open and welcoming, many days you would find her surrounded by family and friends enjoying listening to her truths from her childhood. Her contagious smile and laugh would fill a room, her hugs -they were perfect and we all know she loves us bunches. Her true love for her savior shined as she lived by example and she shared this love with everyone she met. This truth brings comfort to our hearts knowing that she is with Jesus.

Surviving are her husband, Reverend William Thomas "Billy" Gillion, Sr., children, Sarah Elaine Johnson (Joey), Sherry Gillion Gunter (Stan), Sheila Gillion Bratten (Mike), William Thomas Gillion, Jr. (Diane) and Omega Gillion Sweat (Virgil), fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gillion was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Bratten, a great-granddaughter, Riley Cameryn Compton, a brother, Ernest Worthington and four sisters, Rhunette Smith, Eunice Dorn, Dollie Weeks and Inez Worthington.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Buddy Cockrell and Rev. Jeremy Beauford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
