Dateline: Saluda, SC Sarah Adams Sarah Pauline Bartley Adams, age 91, died at Hospice House of the Piedmont in Greenwood on Wednesday May 24, 2017. Born September 20, 1925 at home in Saluda County, Mrs. Adams was the eighth of twelve children of the late Andrew Jackson Bartley and Beulah Trotter Bartley. She grew up in the Richland Springs community of Saluda County and was graduated from Ward High School in 1942 as valedictorian and president of her class. In October 1943 she married Adell Patterson Adams, who died in 1987. Mrs. Adams worked briefly in the textile industry prior to becoming the “tower lady” at the Saluda fire tower, where she and her family lived for 15 years. In her second career Mrs. Adams worked for Monsanto in Greenwood County for 20 years. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church of Saluda. Survivors include three sons: Arthur Dale Adams (wife Ann Ella) of Edgefield, Harry Patterson Adams (wife Claudia) of Newark, OH, and James Dean Adams (wife Marti) of Saluda; grandsons, Patrick Adams (wife Kayla), of Saluda, Kevin Adams of Pittsburgh, PA, and James Adams (fiancée Beth Jones) of Summerville; granddaughters: Sara Elizabeth A. Hensley (husband Scott) of Columbus, OH, Deidre A. Glymph (husband Jamie) and Christen A. Edwards (husband Andrew), both of Saluda; and four great-grandchildren. Survivors also include two sisters, Catherine B. Feaster of West Columbia and Jessie B. Long of Ward, and one brother, Henry Bartley of Johnston, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Adams was predeceased in 2011 by her daughter, Kaye Adams. Also deceased are three sisters and five brothers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday evening May 26 and a memorial service will follow on Sunday at 2:00 PM, May 28 at Ramey Funeral Home in Saluda, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Paul Holcomb and Rev. Jeremy Beauford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cemetery Fund of Red Bank Baptist Church, 309 E.
