Shirley Videssie Butler Evans Gunter, 88, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at her home.

Born in Saluda County, and the daughter of the late Adell Butler and Nannie Lou Koon Butler, she was the wife of the late Richard Alexander Gunter. She worked for Riegel in Johnston, and after retiring she cleaned for her beloved church for 18 years. Mrs. Shirley was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and Myrna Watkins Sunday School Class.

She was a loving woman who always put her family first. Her kind heart and constant smile brightened the lives of everyone around her. She never stopped checking in on those she loved, making sure everyone felt cared for and supported.

Surviving is a daughter, Sheryl Nan Evans of Saluda; stepdaughter, Regina Gunter; stepson, Brett Gunter; granddaughter, Montana Matthews; great-grandchildren, Richard Adams, Jr. (JR) of Saluda, Arizonia Padgett, Georgia Padgett, and Indiana Padgett; numerous nieces and nephews; and Smokey the Wonder Cat of Saluda.

Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by husbands, George G. Evans and Richard Gunter; son, Richard G. Evans; granddaughter, Tara Alexis Garland Sims; and brothers, Levear Butler (Annie), Heyward Butler (Addie Sue), Elmer Butler (Helen), and Nevit Butler (Doris).

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Good Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Going officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mayson Memorial Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Mrs. Shirley Gunter.
