Trudie Hipp Nichols
Trudie Mae Hipp Nichols, 94 of Saluda, widow of James "Jake" Jacob Nichols went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 28, 2024. She passed away at home with family and friends around her.
Born on June 25, 1930, Trudie was the daughter of the late Wilbert Ariail and Willie Mae Fulmer Hipp. She was a graduate of Hollywood High School and Columbia College. During high school, she played basketball under the coaching of Mac Quattlebaum where their team won two state championships in 1947 & 1948.
Trudie completed a degree in Home Economics Education at Columbia College. Three days after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, "Jake". They shared 63 years together. Mrs. Nichols taught science and home economics at Hollywood School for several years before staying home to care for her family. Trudie was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church and the Saluda Family & Community Leaders. In 2000, she was inducted into the Master Farm Homemakers Guild. An active member of Corinth, she taught Sunday School, served on several committees, and was a member of the WELCA (Ladies) group. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved gardening, sewing, baking and volunteering in her community for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Hubert (Louise) Nichols; James Nichols of Saluda; and one daughter, Connie (Kevin) Lake of Saluda; seven grandchildren: Heath (Jessica) Nichols, Paige (Harrison) Crawford, Brent (Kalyn) Lake, Jordan Lake, Chelsea (Zac) Thomas, Jack Nichols, Samantha Nichols, nine great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Gilette Hipp.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by two brothers, Howel (June) Hipp of Inman, Frances Hipp of West Columbia and a dear sister, Marjorie (Fred) Mills of Saluda.
Funeral services will be held at Corinth Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 31, 11:00 am with the Rev. William Strand presiding. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to caregivers Patsy Williams, Cindy Clark, and Wanda Martin for their compassionate care given to our mother. A special thanks to her nephew and family physician, Ralph Nichols Riley and Hospice Services of Georgia and South Carolina.
