Virginia Scurry Storey, 80, of Chappells died Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at National Health Care of Greenwood after an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Marvin "Buck" Storey. Born in Saluda on September 1, 1941, to the late Fed Grant Scurry and Evelyn Edwards Scurry Rodgers of Saluda.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fed "Billy" Scurry and F. Paul Scurry.
Virginia is survived by her children, Sharon Storey Alvarez (Bryan) and Stephen Storey (Glenda Jean) all of Chappells, grandchildren, Marlana Alvarez, Daniel Alvarez (Jordynn) of Lakeland, FL and Justin Henry Storey of Chappells, great-grandsons, Blake and Damien and a sister, Betty Scurry Sullivan of Greenwood along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a native of Saluda and a graduate of Saluda High School, class of 1959. She was a member of the Saluda Presbyterian Church. She served as a USPS mail carrier in Saluda for years and later as the Postmaster of the Chappells Post Office until her retirement. After which she worked at Kay's Flowers in Saluda and volunteered at the Saluda Historical Society as long as her health allowed.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Chappells Baptist Church with Pastor Yvon Ledoux officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
