Walter Joel Herlong
Walter Joel Herlong, 63, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at his home.
Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Eldred N. Herlong and Barbara Patricia Butler Herlong. Mr. Herlong was employed with South Carolina Department of Transportation until his health started to decline. He was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church and was known in the community as the collard man. His two greatest passions were hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his daughter, Brittany Leopard (Bobby) of Ninety-Six, two grandchildren, Presley Leopard and Preston Leopard, three step-grandchildren, a brother, Eddie Herlong (Judy) of Prosperity, two nephews, Wayne Herlong of Lexington and Jason Herlong (Jennie) of Kennesaw, GA and a great-nephew, Finn Herlong.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Strand officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., prior to the service.
