Obituary

Wilbur A. Humphries, 92, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center.

Born in Newberry, he was the son of the late Thomas Smith and Annie Pauline Lee Humphries, and husband of Helen Force Humphries. After graduating Newberry High School, he served in the US Navy 1946-1947 as a radar specialist on an aircraft carrier, and was later a member of the American Legion in Saluda. After completing his service, he met his beautiful wife, Helen, at the Newberry swimming pool. They originally resided in Newberry and relocated to Saluda where he became a business partner with Saluda Jewelry Company.

He loved spending time with his family, and going to the beach and mountains for vacations. He was an avid fisherman and baseball fan, and delivered the Greenville News and The State for decades. He was also a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He loved his church with a dedication that is very rare.

Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Helen F. Humphries, two sons, Steven W. Humphries (Pam) of Lexington and Brian L. Humphries of Asheville, NC, a daughter, Lynn H. Chapman (Steve) of Evans, GA, two grandchildren, Adam Humphries (Morgan) of Lexington and Stephanie Rogers (Woody) of Cheraw, and six great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2020 at West Travis Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saluda County EMS, P.O. Box 701, Saluda, SC 29138, or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 102 E. Butler Ave, Saluda, SC 29138.
