William Chapman
William Franklin Chapman, 93, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Saluda, and a son of the late Mose Chapman and Eva Cockrell Chapman, he was the husband of the late Martha Nell Wells Chapman. A life of faithful service and devotion was reflected in his years of service to his country, his church, and his family. Mr. Chapman fully retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Technical Sergeant, proudly dedicating many years to serving his nation. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was an ordained Baptist minister who faithfully taught Sunday School at Saluda Baptist Church and enjoyed sharing God’s Word and encouraging others in their faith.
Outside of his military and ministry, Mr. Chapman found great enjoyment in the simple things in life. He loved spending time fishing and working in his garden, taking pride in watching the fruits of his labor grow. His faith, service, and love for the outdoors were a meaningful part of the life he shared with those around him.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth Chapman (Alice) of Leesville; a daughter, Kim Harmstad (Cliff) of Simpsonville; a daughter-in-law, Susan Chapman of Little Mountain; eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by two sons, George Sleen “Pudge” Chapman and Timothy Jacob Chapman, three brothers, Meredith “Mert” Chapman, Sam “Bull” Chapman and Donald “Scorp” Chapman, and three sisters, Mosey Lee Cameron, Ella Louise Adams, and Sue Walker.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Saluda Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff McCartney officiating. Interment will follow at Travis Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Saluda Baptist Church, 112 West Wheeler Circle, Saluda, SC 29138.
