Wayne Wertz

William Wayne Wertz, 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Greenwood, and a son of the late Alfred Calvin Wertz and Thelma Black Wertz. Mr. Wertz was a proud graduate of Saluda High School, where he played football and earned the nickname "Possum," a name many continued to call him throughout his life. He retired from V.C. Summer Nuclear Station after years of dedicated service. A faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church, he served as a former deacon and enjoyed fellowship both in worship and on the church softball team in the earlier years.

Mr. Wertz had a deep love for farming and took great pride in raising his cattle. He treasured time spent with his family and friends and especially valued the relationships he built with his work family over the years.

Surviving are three sons, Jeff Wertz (Lynn), Scott Wertz (Daphine) both of Saluda, and Brett Wertz (Jason) of Atlanta, GA, a sister, Norma Brown, a brother, Keith Wertz both of Saluda, eight grandchildren, Heather Hughes, Chelsea Wertz, Misty Holsonback, Holly Rodgers, Ciara Coleman, Heidi Rodgers, Ginger Wertz, and Kelly Ouzts, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wertz was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Wertz.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, March 6, 2026 at Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lee Going officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times the family will be at the family home, 6980 Greenwood Highway, Saluda, SC .
