William Walter Wessinger, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 20, 2014 as he was surrounded by his loving family at Saluda Nursing Center. He was born June 12, 1934 to the late William A.Z. and Farrah Mae Senn Wessinger.
A graduate of Saluda High School, he was associated with his father in the family business, Saluda Ice and Fuel Company. In 1960, William was in the first group of employees when Chemstrand (Monsanto) established its new company in Greenwood, SC. He was an engineering mechanic and retired in 1991 after 31 years of service. He was also a member of the Sharpshooters Quality Circle. He was a charter member of the Saluda Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Director, chairman of Senior Adults and other various committees. He was a charter member of Saluda Civitan Club. He was a kind and compassionate gentleman who lived by the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
A truly genuine family man, William loved and adored his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Lottie Boland Wessinger, daughters, Marcia Penick and her husband Tommy, Karen Rushton and her husband Bruce. Grandchildren are Travis Mitchell (Logan), Chris Mitchell, Britni Tollison (Rusty), Megan Crouch (Jeff) and Kristin Rushton (Hunter Price). Great-grandchildren are Campbell Lee Mitchell, Allie Reece Mitchell and William Tyler Mitchell.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Emajene W. Crawford.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm, at Ramey Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the Wessinger home on Woodland Trail.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3:00 pm, at the Saluda Baptist Church, 112 West Wheeler Circle. Interment will follow in West Travis Park Cemetery.
