Saluda, SC
William Herbert "Will" Pou
William Herbert "Will" Pou of Saluda passed peacefully on October 14, 2021 after an extended illness.
The youngest of 4 children born to Mary Wilks Pou and the late James Wheeler Pou, Will loved to say, "I'm not the baby, I'm just the youngest!"
Will came into this world on the tail end of hurricane Gracie on October 1, 1959, He graduated from Saluda High School where he was in the band and played baseball. After graduation, Will spent many hours doing what he loved most - working on his father's farm. He also worked for a time as a carpenter's helper. In his last years he came back to his first love, the farm. Along with his sons, he continued James' legacy of breeding Simmental beef cattle. Sardis Simmental farm has been in operation for over 50 years.
Will was proud of his cows, but he was even more proud of his children. Jackson, Joseph, and Jana meant everything to him. He wanted you to know all about them, what they were doing and when they had stopped by for a visit.
Will was a charter member of Saluda Baptist Church and attended as long as he was able. He accepted Jesus into his heart and was baptized.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Mary W. Pou, sons, Jackson (Jesli) and Joseph Pou, daughter, Jana Pou, "bossy big sister", Mary Lou Burriss (Bill), brothers, Jim and John (Candy), all of Saluda. He especially loved his grandson, Jaxson Wheeler Pou and his canine companion, Bull.
Many thanks and much love to special caregivers Reverend Mildred Walker, Valerie Jenkins and Tecoria Burt. There are not enough words or hugs to thank you for all you have done.
A graveside service will be held at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jeff McCartney and Rev. Mildred Walker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be directed to Saluda Baptist Church, the 4-H Livestock Program, Saluda County EMS, or Hospice House of Greenwood.
We wish to express our appreciation to Dr. Ralph Riley and staff, Saluda County EMS, Self Regional Hospital, and Hospice House of Greenwood.
